Dragon Fin Soup: A SNES-Design RPG for PS4, PS3, Vita and PC

Dragon Fin Soup is explained as a SNES-Design turn-based mostly role-playing game, with Fakelike elements, for PC and PlayStation (PS4, PS3, Vita) hardware. And it's almost reached its $24K target on Kickstarter.

It's a colourful, eye-catching and creatively charming game with a story mode (like a normal RPG) and success mode (permadeath).

Turns are taken concurrently with enemies, making things a bit more hectic, and there's fishing, crafting, gathering, story missions, randomly generated quests, loads of locations, 20 equipment slots and a lot of statistics!

It's all heavily inspired by fairy tales, specifically Robin Hood, hence the Red Robin main charater - a "cheerful alcoholic making her living as a bounty hunter".

Even the developer, Grimm Bros., has a touch of fairy tale about it, and is formed of five professional devs.

Battlefield 4 Dragon's Teeth expansion to increase ballistic shield

"It turns out that stopping bullets in a first-person shooter is a ton of fun"

Upcoming Battlefield 4 DLC will feature the addition of a ballistic shield.

The two-handed shield will serve as mobile cover in the Dragon's Teeth expansion pack, which is set to focus on urban warfare.

Through a GDC session joined by Polygon, senior animator Ryan Duffin said DICE initially wanted to create a shield which players could use in combo with handguns. However, development schedules and last-gen hardware memory constraints meant the feature couldn't be implemented. Instead, players will be able to melee with the shield, which has an attack range of about one metre.

Duffin said there was "a lot of resistance" to the shield at first, "but the more we assessed it, the more we realised it was a better feature. It turns out that stopping bullets in a first-person shooter is a ton of fun. We're confident that it will generate a new dynamic for the game."

Dragon's Teeth is the fourth of five prepared Battlefield 4 expansions due for release by the summer of 2014. They can be pre-purchased as part of the £39.99 / $50 Battlefield Premium registration offering. The other four expansions are Second Assault, China Rising, Naval Affect and Final Stand.

An Open Source iPad Display Adapter

Those fancy 2048×1536 pixel resolution displays found in the iPad 3 and 4 can be used for much more than high def Candy Crush and Netflix viewing. [Freddie] over in Southampton, UK built his own adapter to connect these high-resolution LCD panels to anything with a DisplayPort connection. It’s called OSCAR, and it’s the open source way to add a whole lot of pixels in a second (or third, or fourth….) monitor.
The LCD panels found in the iPad 3 and 4 don’t use the usual LVDS connection found in just about every other LCD panel ever made. It uses an extension of the DisplayPort protocol, meaning any graphics card with one of these ports already does the heavy lifting for this panel. The only other thing that’s needed is an adapter to control the power and backlight, which is easily handled by an ATMega32U4. This makes OSCAR Arduino compatible, making it easy to add sensors and USB playthings.
OSCAR is available on Kickstarter for £65 (~$100 USD) for the board itself. Adding to that, you’ll need to grab an iPad retina display through the usual channels for about $65. Not exactly cheap, but try finding another better-than-1080p display for that price.

How WhatsApp Got To Be Worth $19 Billion?

WhatsApp, the super-popular messaging app, has once again come under the spotlight, and became a sensation all over again as Facebook moves to bid $19 Billion for its acquisition. The deal is all but done, making it Facebook's biggest ever purchase, and the second-biggest tech-acquisition of all time. So what is it that makes WhatsApp so special? Let's take a look at the story behind WhatsApp, which is one of the most incredible and

motivational success stories of this age.
According to sources, Facebook has agreed to pay $4 Billion in cash, and $12 Billion in Stock. In addition, a sum of $3 Billion is to be paid to the WhatsApp CEO and staff. The deal is set to be finalized later this year, failing which Facebook will have to pay $1 Billion as recompense.

The story behind WhatsApp

The story of WhatsApp is one of hard work and dedication, of taking risks and entrepreneurship. Jan Koum, the founder of WhatsApp - and soon to be a billionaire - is yet another example of college dropout successes.

Born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Koum lived a simple, ordinary life. His father was a construction manager, and the family somehow managed to eke out a living from a meager income. At age 16, he along with his mother migrated to Mountain View due to the troubled political and anti-Semitic environment back home. The father couldn't make it over.

They got a small apartment through government assistance. To make ends meet, his mother took up babysitting, and Koum started sweeping the floor of a grocery store.

Meanwhile, Koum keep at educating himself - while still at school - and learned computer networking from the books he used to borrow. His prowess led him to the San Jose State University, and to Ernst & Young as a security tester. Soon, he interviewed at Yahoo and got a job as an infrastructure engineer while still at San Jose, which he dropped out of two weeks later. It was during his time at Yahoo that he met and befriended Brian Actor, WhatsApp co-founder.

Both left Yahoo in 2007, and applied for a job at Facebook. They were rejected.

Koum bought an iPhone in 2009, and instantly realized that the seven-month old App Store was about to spawn a whole new industry of apps. Hence, the idea of WhatsApp was born. At this point, both Acton and Koum were jobless. So Koum had to spend what money he had saved from his work at Yahoo on building and running his simple app, which has now become the most popular messaging app in the world.

The competition

If you look over closely at some of the competitors, you will see that none of them were valued even half as much. Facebook offered to buy Snapchat last month for $3 Billion, which was rejected. The popular IM and Voice calling service Skype was purchased by Microsoft for $7.5 Billion. However, most surprising of all, WhatsApp's closest competitor, Viber was recently sold for a meager $900 Million to a Japanese company.

Guess the previous Viber owners have something to think about now.

Way Of Earning Money Online In 2014!

In a world such as today’s, where inflation is on the rise while salaries remain the same, every extra penny can be a blessing. Self-dependence is considered as the ideal situation to be in, especially among the younger generation. Because of the ever rising cost of living commodities and luxuries, more and more people are finding themselves working over-time for some extra salary, looking for better jobs, working part-time to cover their expenses, and so on. Hence, people want to look for alternate or parallel sources of income. And as they say, 'where there's a will, there’s a way'. Indeed, there is not one, but many ways you can earn a few extra bucks. Many of these involve working online, meaning you can increase your income while working in the comfort of your living room!
Most of my blogger friends would know how they can earn money online through their blogs via monetizing them. But not everyone has a blog, even though creating a blog is as easy as creating a Facebook profile. Maintaining a blog, however, is not as easy. Hence, for such people, there are various other ways through which they could earn an income.
